Protein Requirement Calculator - First Extension
A few days ago I published the protein requirement calculator, and immediately received requests to extend it with all sorts of dishes. Eating is personal - and although I meant the simulator as an illustration, with example data, I do understand that what one really wants is to see one’s own diet reflected in it.
Bundeslebensmittelschlüssel
The initial selection of dishes was hand-picked from the German federal food code, the Bundeslebensmittelschlüssel(1) (BLS) - a reasonably reliable source, particularly for working out the distribution of the Essential nutrients are those that the body cannot synthesise itself and must obtain through food – vitamins, essential amino acids, and fatty acids. amino acids correctly. Happily, the BLS is available under a very friendly licence (CC BY 4.0), so it can be put to excellent use in applications like this one.
Available foods
The curated foods and the example days remain as they were; they are still selectable from a manageable list. In addition there is now a search field that takes food names - in English or German. Those are then taken over into the simulators at a portion size of 100 g.

Essential amino acids
How do different ways of eating compare when it comes to essential amino acids - in quality as well as in quantity?
Protein requirement calculatorIf you would like a different portion size, import the dishes you want through the Account / Meals menu entry first - that is where the default portion size can be entered, the same one the glucose-insulin simulator uses.
Apart from that, the protein requirement simulator still works exactly as it did when it was published - only now with one extra function and more than 7100 additional foods and dishes.
Enjoy your meal.
