What this simulation shows

The chart tracks two things simultaneously: blood glucose (left axis, mg/dL) and insulin (right axis, μU/mL) over simulated time. Both follow your active metabolic profile - the baseline values the simulation gravitates toward when nothing else is happening.

Eating a meal

Select a meal from the picker and press Eat. The simulation models gastric emptying first: food enters the stomach, then moves into the gut at a rate slowed by fat and protein content. Glucose enters the bloodstream from there, triggering an insulin response.

Fast carbs spike glucose quickly and sharply. Slow carbs produce a more gradual rise. Fat and protein slow the emptying of everything else in the stomach, flattening and delaying the curve.

Injecting insulin

If your profile is configured for insulin therapy, the inject panel lets you add a bolus (fast-acting) or basal (slow-acting) dose in units (U). One unit adds roughly 10 μU/mL to the corresponding absorption pool, which then drains into the bloodstream over time.

Speed and reset

Use the speed control to run the simulation faster or slower. Reset clears the current run. The simulation is a disposable scratchpad, so nothing is lost that wasn’t already in a saved day plan.

The reference profile

If you have more than one metabolic profile, a faint reference trace shows how a different profile would respond to the same events - useful for comparing conditions side by side.
